Review Policy

The Selkie Reads Stories will happily accept review requests from authors, publishers, and publicists. Please take note that we are international bloggers from the Philippines. If you are still interested and are willing to ship books internationally or send an ebook, thank you and please read on.

REVIEW POLICY:

BOOKS WE WILL REVIEW:
We will only accept Young Adult and New Adult books for review. We are open to books in any subcategory that they fall into, but we are mostly interested in contemporary, paranormal romance, and dystopian novels. We have nothing against sex scenes, violence, or vulgar language and we would be okay with reading books with R-18 content. We are willing to review books that are second or third in a series as long as you send us the other books preceding it.

FORMATS I WILL ACCEPT:
As of September 22 2012, I will only accept physical copies for review. I have nothing against ebooks, but I do not have free access to the computer 24/7 and I do not own an e-reader. I plan on buying one, and I will open up requests for e-copies as soon as I have one.

UPDATE 4|4|2013: We are now accepting ebooks for review. Ellie owns a Kobo Glo and Kyle can read books on his phone, and we can accept ebooks in EPUB or MOBI format and DRM-protected files from Netgalley or Edelweiss. In addition to that, we are still accepting physical copies of books and galleys, which we prefer over ebooks.
HOW LONG IT TAKE TO READ AND WRITE A REVIEW:
This is tricky. We are normally fast readers who can read 100 pages an hour, but life does get in the way sometimes and it takes much longer. If you have a time frame in mind, let us know and we'll try to find a way to fit it in the review schedule.

The story is completely different when it comes to advance copies and uncorrected proofs. We take note of the book's release month and read it as soon as the date draws near. We either post the review a week before or a week after the release.

CONTENT OF OUR REVIEWS:
  • The book's cover
  • Title
  • Author
  • Publisher
  • Publication date
  • Author links
  • Goodreads page
  • Summary
  • A quote that we liked (if applicable)
  • Our review
  • Our rating
  • Buy links
  • Other media (book trailers, etc.)
A FEW THINGS:
  • We try our best to write 100% honest reviews, so an extremely positive review is not guaranteed.
  • Please understand that we will not be able to accept every request.
  • Sending us a book does not guarantee that it will be read, or that we will post a review.
  • Books that we request personally will have precedence over all other titles.
  • When sending a review request, please include the summary and cover of your book.
  • If the book is part of a series, please send us the books preceding it.
Reviews will be cross-posted on GoodReads, Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, YABooksCentral.com, Barnes & Noble, and Amazon.

If you are interested in having your book featured and/or reviewed here in The Selkie Reads Stories, please fill up this form, or e-mail Ellie at mspandasaur@gmail.com or Kyle at
comval_rua@yahoo.com

OTHER PROMOTIONAL MEANS THAT WE ARE WILLING TO DO:
Aside from the average book review, we are also open to hosting and joining blog tours, guest posts, author interviews, character interviews, cover reveals, and book spotlights. We are also accepting swag items to give away to library club and blog readers. Please email me any of us more information regarding this matter.

ON GIVEAWAYS:
We will happily accept swag items and/or books (both e-books and physical copies, ARCs and finished copies) to be given away on the blog. Ellie is more than willing to pay for shipping costs and fees. We will be happy to host International giveaways and USA/Canada giveaways. Giveaways will accept entries through a Rafflecopter widget to avoid cheating.

    The Kennedy Half-Dollar (released May 21, 2013)
    True Crime Memoir/Mystery

This is a true crime memoir of a murder-mystery that took place in a cane field in Waimanalo, Hawaii. A young girl, Seely, finds herself involved, not only with the murder, but with Hawaii’s recognized figures of organized crime. The brutal murder of Mark, the night manager of a well-known nightclub in Waikiki where Seely worked, headlined the news. He was the son of a respected official. The Mafia kidnapped, drugged, raped and threatened Seely for months. Finally she was able to escape their tainted web and leave the islands. For years she wondered why they targeted her, until one night she is forced to face the truth of her connection.

(There is a face in the trees on the front cover.)
