Taking on a brand new challenge

Thursday, May 10, 2012

The Haruki Marukami Reading Challenge is, as the name suggests, a reading challenge with the simple goal of encouraging you to read one or more books by Haruki Murakami over the course of a year. Whether you're completely new to Murakami, or are already a huge fan, everyone is welcome to join in. It's a very flexible challenge, the emphasis is entirely on having fun exploring, or perhaps re-discovering, some of Haruki Murakami's surreal worlds.

Levels of participation:Hajime - Read one book
Sheep Man - Read 3 books
Toru - Read 5 books
Nakata - Read 7 books
Sumire - Read 10+ books
Super-frog - Read everything Murakami has written

I decided to take on this challenge because a friend of mine keeps on raving about how good the latest Murakami in her arsenal is. A bunch of other bibliophiles in the interwebs name a Murakami novel or two when they list their favorites, as well. I don't understand the hype at the moment, having only read Norwegian Wood. I would be lying if I told you that I didn't enjoy it, but I wonder if his other works are consistently of the same caliber? I guess this is the best opportunity to find out and join the Murakami bandwagon.

Oh, and it helps out me complete the 111 books I need to read for my 2012 reading challenge. Mehehe. x Ellie
