Twenty-one year-old Jillian Nichols only has one rule when it comes to boys: catch and release. Boy-catching isn't just a game for Jillian and her friends, it's a lifestyle. After all, boys might be good for a dance or a drink and certainly a little under-cover action of the scandalous variety, but expect much else and you're bound for heart ache.
So when her best friends and fellow boy catchers start dropping like flies junior year, Jillian is determined to keep boys in her bedroom and out of her heart. Until she meets Liam McAvoy, the kind of guy that sticks around to make waffles and who can't—or perhaps won't—take a hint.
Study abroad student Liam doesn't want to be another notch on Jillian's bedpost. Actually he has much more interesting ideas for Jillian and her bedposts, but his student visa's set expiration date means he can't promise her forever. That doesn't mean he's going to walk away from the challenge of discovering why Jillian is hell-bent at keeping people at a distance.
Before long, neither is sure who is catching who—or if they're playing for keeps. Jillian knows one thing though: falling in love will not only break the only rule of boy-catching, it could also break her heart.
I excused myself to the bathroom. After popping my meds and doing a few stretches, I stared into the mirror. I’d never consciously come into the bathroom knowing that the guy I was with would be here in the morning. If I was going to bed on a normal night, I would take off my makeup. Maybe I would throw my bra on the floor. But he was going to be here when I walked out the bathroom door, and I knew he would be there in the morning, maybe even making me breakfast, when I woke up. I grabbed my face wash and scrubbed off my makeup. I slathered some lotion on my face, a remnant from when Cassie lived across from us. She was obsessed with facial care.
The girl looking back at me from the mirror wasn’t the usual vixen that brought home boys. There was no coral lipstick or carefully applied eyeliner, but she was fresh with slightly pink cheeks. I felt naked like this, more exposed than I’d ever really let a boy see me. I thought briefly about taking off my bra, but decided there was no need to get too comfortable.
Liam was in my bedroom when I came out. I sucked in a breath at the sight of him. He’d pulled off his shirt and was lounging on the bed in his jeans. Two spoons lay across his chiseled abs, and he held up a pint of ice cream. But when his eyes met mine, they widened and his lips parted slightly.
“You should never wear makeup,” he told me.
I covered my face with my hands. He’d noticed that I’d taken it off.
“Don’t,” he said in a low voice. “You look so unbelievably sexy. I’m afraid we won’t be getting any sleep tonight.”
