YUMMYS CHICKEN AND PASTA HAUS // Timeless comfort foodSunday, June 14, 2015
Before Mcdonalds Bajada, trendy coffeeshops and mainstream buffet restaurants like Vikings, Davao had Yummy. This place opened waaay back in 1988, albeit in a different location. My mom loved this place as a teenager, and said that it was often the kind of place you took your child to if she did well in school. Their chicken, pasta, and burgers easily became Davao’s favorite go-to comfort foods.
I roughly remember faded photographs of my first birthday celebration, with the famous Yummy Bear smiling behind a crying baby me- and that was 18 years ago! Fast forward to 2015, my friends and I went back to this place and were greeted by pastel furniture and dainty framed typography hanging on the walls. It looked like a completely different place, but the food was simply timeless- and affordable too! Their dishes copped at around P55-P200 and sure ka na na mabubusog ka. They also branched out to bake homemade cakes and other desserts and they were all delectable. Needless to say, I fell in love with Yummys all over again.
Yummys noticeably revamped their restaurant to attract diners from generations old and new. Their whole restaurant looked incredibly instgrammable and they also now have free wifi. The place was filled with old regulars quiely having afternoon tea, families taking group photos, and highschool teenagers vsco-ing aesthetic square shots for their instagram feeds. I don’t know what led them to make this abrupt change, but seeing as how a day doesn’t go by na walang “someone just checked in at Yummys” notification on my SwarmApp, it definitely worked.
Yummys Chicken and Pasta Haus is located at F. Torres St, Poblacion District, Davao City, right in front of the church. They are open from 9:00 am – 9:00 pm.
